12-29-2014 M&R Hotel Management Adds Massachusetts Hotel to Portfolio
GREAT NECK, New York (Dec. 29, 2014) – M&R Hotel Management today announced that it has been awarded a contract to operate the 103-room Holiday Inn Express Braintree in the Boston suburb of Braintree, Massachusetts, which becomes the 13th hotel in its portfolio and third added this year.

The select-service hotel at 190 Wood Road, owned by Norfolk Hospitality LLC of Braintree, features king, double and single rooms and suites with complimentary Internet service, coffee and tea makers, microwave ovens, minifrigerators, premium cable TV channels, desks, speakerphones with voice mail and free local calls and hairdryers.

Additional complimentary amenities include 24-hour fitness and business centers, Express Start Breakfast Bar, on-site parking, bottled water, daily newspaper and shuttle service to local transit connections and nearby attractions within a five-mile radius of the hotel. The hotel also offers a self-service guest laundry and ATM.

The Holiday Inn Express Braintree, which is 15 miles south of downtown Boston, 12 miles from Logan International Airport and three miles from downtown Braintree, is accessible from Interstate 95 and the Quincy Adams and Wollaston stations of the Metropolitan Boston Transit Authority.

11-18-2014 Newly Constructed, 103-Room Holiday Inn Opens on Staten Island

GREAT NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 18, 2014) – M&R Hotel Management today announced the opening of the Holiday Inn Staten Island, a newly constructed, 103-room, full-service hotel at 290 Wild Ave. in the Travis section on the west side of the island.

10-27-2014 General Manager Appointed for Holiday Inn Express at JFK Airport

GREAT NECK, New York (Oct. 27, 2014) – M&R Hotel Management, operator of 10 New York hotels, today announced the appointment of Kevin Chang as general manager of the 129-room Holiday Inn Express New York JFK Airport near John F. Kennedy International Airport in Jamaica, New York.

Chang, a 23-year hospitality industry veteran who has managed hotels in New York and California, will oversee all aspects of the hotel’s operations including sales, marketing, security, maintenance, housekeeping and accounting.

Prior to joining M&R Hotel Management, Chang was general manager of The Parc Hotel in Flushing, New York, front office director of the Petit Hermitage Hotel in West Hollywood, California, operations manager of the Hotel Erwin in Venice Beach, California, assistant general manager of the La Quinta Hotel at LAX Airport in Los Angeles and general manager of the Hotel 41 at Times Square in New York.

“Kevin’s extensive experience in the hotel industry, including at a select-service airport hotel, makes him a strong choice to lead the team at our Holiday Inn Express New York JFK Airport,” said Brian M. McSherry, M&R Hotel Management chief operating officer.

Chang earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration at California State University, Long Beach. He holds certification in training from the Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Lodging Association and in fire safety fitness from the New York City Fire Department. He is fluent in English and Cantonese.

10-9-2014 General Manager Named for Holiday Inn on Manhattan’s Lower East Side

GREAT NECK, New York (Oct. 9, 2014) ─ M&R Hotel Management, operator of 10 New York hotels, today announced the appointment of Rosario Bianchi to general manager of the 132-room Holiday Inn NYC-Lower East Side at Delancey and Suffolk streets.

Bianchi, a 17-year hospitality industry veteran who has served in hotels in New York City, Long Island and Baltimore, will oversee all aspects of the hotel, including operations, sales, marketing, security, maintenance, housekeeping and accounting.

Prior to joining M&R Hotel Management, Bianchi was general manager of the Holiday Inn Long Island City-Manhattan View in New York. From 2009 to 2010, he was executive director of rooms at The Garden City Hotel in New York. From 2005 to 2006, he was assistant general manager of the Fitzpatrick Grand Central, and from 2003 to 2005 he was front desk director at the Gramercy Park Hotel, both in New York City.

From 2001 to 2003, Bianchi served the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City as a sales manager and a service manager. Earlier in his career, he was a front office manager at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore and worked at the Grand Hyatt New York.

“Rosario’s successful track record managing hotels – specifically his recent experience with the Holiday Inn brand – make him well-qualified to become general manager of our thriving Holiday Inn NYC-Lower East Side,” said Brian M. McSherry, M&R Hotel Management chief operating officer.

Bianchi earned a bachelor’s degree in retail management at Cazenovia College in New York and is certified as a fire safety director and in food protection. He completed the InterContinental Hotels Group general manager certification program and the company’s Journey to Brand Manager training program. He speaks fluent Italian.

GREAT NECK, N.Y. (Aug. 5, 2014) – M&R Hotel Management has announced the appointment of Mureka Walcott as director of human resources, responsible for recruiting, orientation, supporting existing staff, annual performance reviews, coordinating benefits and managing employment insurance.

M&R Hotel Management operates three hotels in Manhattan, four near John F. Kennedy International Airport, one near LaGuardia Airport and two in Staten Island. A third Staten Island hotel is scheduled to open in September.

An 11-year hospitality industry veteran, Walcott previously was area human resources manager for the Residence Inn New York Manhattan/Midtown East and Courtyard New York Manhattan/Times Square, both in New York, from 2013-2014. From 2008-2013, she was market human resources manager at the Renaissance Meadowlands Hotel in Rutherford, New Jersey, where she earlier was an accounting manager. Prior to that, she served in two capacities at the Saddle Brook Marriott in Saddle Brook, New Jersey: front office manager and accounts receivable manager.

GREAT NECK, N.Y. (July 24, 2014) ─ M&R Hotel Management today announced the appointment of Evette Ubinas as general manager of the 93-room Comfort Inn hotel on Wild Avenue in Staten Island, responsible for operations, sales, revenue management, marketing, guest relations, security, human resources, housekeeping and maintenance.



The 11-year hospitality industry veteran previously served M&R as rooms operation manager at its Comfort Inn Midtown West on West 48th Street in New York.  Earlier in her career, she was director of operations, front office manager and director of housekeeping at hotels in North Carolina, Colorado, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.



Ubinas earned a certificate at the Pickens Technical Center in Aurora, Colo. Her honors include the Hilton Spirit of Pride Award in 2005 and 2007 and the Stars of the Industry Guest Relations Award presented by the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association in 2005. She is fluent in English and Spanish.



The Comfort Inn on Staten Island features complimentary parking, Wi-Fi, hot breakfast and 24-hour-a-day fitness and business centers. 7-7-2014 - Manager Appointed for Holiday Inn Express Manhattan Midtown West
GREAT NECK, N.Y. (July 7, 2014) – M&R Hotel Management, operator of 10 New York hotels, today announced the appointment of Tracey Rucks to general manager of the 177-room Holiday Inn Express Manhattan Midtown West at 538 W. 48th St.



Rucks, a 10-year hospitality industry veteran who has managed hotels in Indiana, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, will oversee operations, sales, marketing, security, maintenance, housekeeping and accounting.



Prior to joining M&R Hotel Management, Rucks was general manager of the Holiday Inn Indianapolis Carmel in Indianapolis, Indiana. From 2010 to 2014, she was general manager of the Fairfield Inn & Suites New York Manhattan/Fifth Avenue in New York. From 2008 to 2009, she was general manager of the Hilton Garden Inn Edison/Raritan Center in Edison, New Jersey, and from 2007 to 2008, she was general manager of the Hilton Garden Inn Danbury in Connecticut.



In 2007, Rucks was an area director of sales for Alliance Hospitality, a hotel owner and management company based in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she oversaw sales strategy for nine hotels representing four brands. From 2006-2007, Rucks was general manager of the former Holiday Inn Tinton Falls-Eatontown in New Jersey.



As Alliance Hospitality’s area director of revenue management from 2004-2006, she helped develop and lead a training course required for general managers and sales managers.

Rucks has been certified as a general manager by InterContinental Hotels Group, Hilton Worldwide and Marriott International. She prides herself on being able to develop talent and foster a sense of engagement among employees.



Rucks earned a bachelor’s degree in economics at Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts, and a fire safety director certificate of fitness from the New York City Fire Department. She is a member of the Professional Women’s Business Association.

GREAT NECK, N.Y. (Dec. 9, 2013) ─ M&R Hotel Management today announced the opening of the Holiday Inn New York – JFK Airport, a new, 201-room, full-service hotel at the intersection of Brookville and Rockaway boulevards in Jamaica, N.Y., just east of John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The Holiday Inn New York – JFK Airport features the brand’s newest prototype design with an arching glass porte cochere and 116 king and 85 double guest rooms designed in a sophisticated color palette with bright accents. A complimentary shuttle provides 24-hour transportation to and from the airport, and an independently managed restaurant offers service throughout the day.

The hotel’s in-room Guest Link tool enables guests to access the Internet, connect their laptops to the in-room television and charge their cellphones and tablets. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the building, providing bandwidth of 35.6 megabytes per second for downloads and 6.17 megabytes for uploads, exceeding industry standards.

The hotel’s complimentary, 24-hour fitness facility is equipped with stationary bicycles, treadmills, elliptical machines and free weights. A business center provides access to computers and the Internet. The hotel’s 24-hour grab-and-go Corner Market Place enables guests to pick up light meals, snacks, beverages and toiletries. A guest laundry also is available. Staff members are multilingual.

The Landing, the hotel’s three-meal-a-day restaurant, is open to guests, travelers passing through the airport and members of the local community. Patrons can enter the restaurant through either the hotel lobby or a separate entrance. The Landing’s menu features modern American and Italian classics ranging from burgers and pasta to steak and seafood. Specialties include prime aged porterhouse and veal chop Milanese.

11-20-2013 - M&R Hotel Management Signs its First Third-Party Agreement

GREAT NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 20, 2013) –- M&R Hotel Management of Great Neck, N.Y., today announced the signing of its first third-party management agreement, a contract to operate a 201-room, full-service Holiday Inn now under construction at the intersection of Brookville and Rockaway boulevards in Jamaica, N.Y., just east of John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The Holiday Inn New York – JFK Airport, which is being constructed by one of the largest lodging developers in the metropolitan area, will become M&R’s fourth hotel at the airport, the nation’s sixth busiest in terms of total passenger traffic.  M&R currently owns and operates the 129-room Holiday Inn Express JFK Airport, 75-room Days Inn Jamaica - JFK Airport and 88-room Best Western JFK Airport.

M&R also owns and operates a hotel near LaGuardia Airport, three in Manhattan and two on Staten Island.

M&R’s business plan calls for expansion of its portfolio in the New York metropolitan area and beyond through third-party management contracts and by leveraging its more than decade of success as an owner-operator, according to Brian M. McSherry, chief operating officer.

“We look forward to bringing the same level of expertise to operating a hotel owned by others that we bring to our owned and managed portfolio,” he said. “Since we’re also owners, we view profit and expense issues from that perspective. Consequently, we bring that same vigilance to bear on behalf of third-party owners. Our interests are completely aligned.”

The Holiday Inn New York – JFK Airport conforms to the latest design and amenity standards of the Holiday Inn brand, franchised by InterContinental Hotels Group. The hotel features a flexible meeting and event space that can host groups of up 70 classroom-style, a fitness center, grab-and-go lobby market, guest laundry, complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the building and complimentary shuttle service to the airport.

Guest rooms – a mix of king and double-double rooms – are designed in a contemporary style that is consistent with the latest Holiday Inn design prototype. Guest Link centers in each room provide access to the Internet, a port for connecting personal computers to the television and outlets for charging computers, phones and tablet devices. Internet download speeds are expected to exceed 35 megabytes per second, and upload speeds will exceed 6 megabytes per second.

The new structure has been engineered to minimize energy use through the use of low-wattage fluorescent lighting and high-efficiency heating, cooling and ventilation units in each room.

The Holiday Inn New York – JFK Airport features a three-meal-a-day restaurant called The Landing. General Manager Louis Gonzalez, a 27-year industry veteran, said the restaurant space is leased to a third-party operator, “which is the most efficient and cost effective model for us.” The restaurant also will provide coffee and meal service for group meetings.

10-23-2013 - Ron Kozinski Named Finance Chief by M&R Hotel Management

GREAT NECK, N.Y. ( Oct 23, 2013) ─ M&R Hotel Management, a fast-growing, owner-operator based in Great Neck, N.Y., today announced the appointment of Ronald A. Kozinski, a 34-year finance veteran, as vice president of finance, responsible for overseeing accounting and finance and providing development support to the company’s senior team and ownership group.

Brian M. McSherry, M&R chief operating officer, said Kozinski brings to M&R “an understanding of the lodging industry, notably hotel financing and accounting, as well as familiarity with the major hotel brands, the nuances of operations and special issues involved with franchising.”

Kozinski previously was vice president of finance for Wyndham Worldwide’s hotel group in Parsippany, N.J., where he provided technical accounting and financial reporting support to the chief financial officer and controller, supported budgeting and strategic planning and directed successful global mergers and acquisitions of up to $150 million.

From 2005 to 2006, he was worldwide controller for McCann Healthcare Worldwide, a division of Interpublic Group, directing accounting and reporting related to 15 businesses in the United States, Europe and Asia. During that time, he led a five-year restatement project, led compliance efforts and participated in merger-and-acquisition activities.

Kozinski served Degussa Corp. (now Evonik Corp.), the North American division of  Evonik Degussa GMbH, a global chemicals company, in Parsippany from 1993 to 2004 as vice president of accounting and director of financial reporting.  His responsibilities included financial reporting, accounting policy, technical accounting and merger-and-acquisition efforts.

Earlier in his career, he was a controller and audit manager for IMO Industries Inc., a manufacturer of rotary pumps in Monroe, N.C., and senior audit manager and assistant audio manager for KPMG LLP, an audit, tax and advisory services firm that is the U.S. division of KPMG International Cooperative.

Kozinski, a certified public accountant, earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance at Montclair State University, New Jersey. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants and lives in Kearny, N.J.

( Oct. 17, 2013) ─ M&R Hotel Management, a fast-growing, owner-operator based in Great Neck, N.Y., today announced the appointment of Janelle Schwartz, a 16-year hospitality veteran, as vice president of sales and marketing to oversee sales, marketing, e-commerce, revenue management, public relations and social media.

Brian M. McSherry, M&R chief operating officer, said Schwartz brings “multiple branding skills” to her new role, notably experience marketing hotels under the Starwood, Hilton, Marriott, AmeriSuites and Leading Hotels of the World brands as well as destinations including Turks and Caicos and Hawaii.

“Janelle’s background in marketing, sales, the online world and human resources that will facilitate the company’s growth and help it achieve its performance objectives,” he said.

From 2010 to 2012, Schwartz was vice president of sales and marketing for Stonebridge Companies, a hotel management company in Englewood, Colo., where her responsibilities included business planning, strategic planning, creation and implementation of sales and marketing campaigns, hotel openings, rebranding, management of operating revenues and sales team leadership.

She was director of sales and marketing for the Hilton Waikiki Beach in Honolulu from 2009 to 2010, overseeing the resort’s sales, catering and revenue management teams and managing public relations and advertising.  

Earlier in her career, Schwartz served in a variety of sales and marketing roles for Prism Hotels & Resorts, Omni Mandalay Hotel, Omni Los Angeles at California Plaza, Harrell Hospitality, Hilton Worldwide, Prime Hospitality and Richfield Hospitality Services . She also served briefly as chief talent matchmaker for Cobalt Careers, an executive recruiting firm in Montvale, N.J.

Schwartz earned a master of business administration degree in communications at Stanford University, Palo Alto, Calif., and a bachelor of arts degree in organizational communications at Arizona State University, Tempe. She resides in Montvale, N.J.

GREAT NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 9, 2013) ─ M&R Hotel Management, a fast-growing, owner-operator based in Great Neck, N.Y., today announced the appointment of Brian M. McSherry as chief operating officer, responsible for overseeing the company’s existing portfolio of hotels in the greater New York metropolitan area and its growth nationwide.

Amit Gandhi, M&R president, said McSherry’s responsibilities include assembling a leadership team to transform the company from a regional operator to a national management company with assets nationwide.

“With the competition among hotel management companies, it’s essential that M&R become truly best in class,” Gandhi said. “Brian has the leadership skills and operating experience to achieve that goal and grow the M&R portfolio.”

McSherry is a 32-year lodging industry veteran with extensive experience working for major brands including Marriott, Hilton and Wyndham. He also served major franchisors in senior leadership roles, overseeing both full- and select-service hotels in the United States, Mexico and Caribbean. 

He previously was vice president, operations, for Stonebridge Companies, a hotel management company in Englewood, Colo. In that role, he oversaw the company’s properties in four states and the ground-up development of two hotels in Manhattan.

From 2009 to 2012, McSherry was regional vice president for Concord Hospitality Enterprises Company, a hotel development and management company in Raleigh, N.C. He supervised the company’s the largest portfolio including hotels in eight states that generated more than $125 million in sales.

McSherry came up through the ranks in food and beverage and served as general manager of hotels operated by Interstate Hotels & Resorts, Meid Enterprises, Columbia Sussex Corp., Regal Hotels International, Marriott International and Hilton Worldwide.

He earned his master of business administration degree in global management at the University of Phoenix, Arizona, and a bachelor of science degree in hotel management and associate’s degree in culinary arts at Johnson & Wales University, Providence, R.I. He is a resident of Norwood, N.J.
