04-24-2017 M&R Names General Manager for Comfort Inn Midtown West

NEW YORK (April 24, 2017) ─ M&R Hotel Management today announced the appointment of Fran Ramos as general manager of the 88-room Comfort Inn Midtown West at 548 West 48th St., where she has been assistant general manager since 2015.

Ramos, a nine-year hospitality industry veteran who has managed hotels around New York state, will oversee the hotel's operations, sales, marketing, security, maintenance, housekeeping and accounting.

Ramos joined M&R Hotel Management in 2014 as part of the preopening team of the Holiday Inn Staten Island before moving to the Comfort Inn. She served in a variety of roles at the Hotel Utica in New York in 2013, including front desk agent, auditor and sales assistant. She was assistant general manager at the Hampton Inn & Suites in New Hartford, New York, in 2012.

Earlier in her career, Ramos served at the Ramada Inn in Oriskany, New York, from 2008-2011, first as front desk manager and then as general manager. Before entering the hospitality industry, she worked in banking. She attended the College of Staten Island in New York and is a certified fire safety director.

03-07-2017 M&R Hotel Management Names Regional Director of Travel Industry Sales

GREAT NECK, N.Y. (March 7, 2017) ─ M&R Hotel Management today announced the appointment of Laurie Oliver as regional director of travel industry sales, responsible for managing sales on behalf of the company’s 17 managed hotels to travel agents, wholesalers, consortia, tour operators, receptive operators and tour groups.

Oliver, a 40-year hospitality industry veteran, previously served Intercontinental Hotels Group as key account director, leisure and airline sales, where she managed and developed sales and strategic partnerships with large leisure wholesale accounts.

From 1982 to 1991, she served IHG as director, CMH Caribbean and Latin America. She began her career with IHG’s predecessor, Holiday Inn International, in 1977.

Oliver studied business at Nassau Community College, Garden City, New York, and served nine years as a board member of the International Inbound Travel Association, formerly the Receptive Services Association of America.  She also is a member of the American Bus Association, National Tour Association and HSMAI’s New York chapter.

GREAT NECK, N.Y. (Feb. 21, 2017) ─ M&R Hotel Management today announced the appointment of Monika Wojcik as general manager of the 177-room Holiday Inn Express Manhattan Midtown West at 538 West 48thSt.

Wojcik, a 12-year hospitality industry veteran who has managed hotels in Westchester County and elsewhere in upstate New York, will oversee the hotel's operations, sales, marketing, security, maintenance, housekeeping and accounting.

Wojcik joins M&R Hotel Management from the Hampton Inn White Plains/Tarrytown in Elmsford, New York, where she was general manager from 2015-2016. She was opening general manager of the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Peekskill-Lower Hudson Valley in Peekskill, New York, from 2013-2015, opening general manager of the Hampton Inn & Suites Poughkeepsie, New York, from 2008-2013 and assistant general manager of the Hampton Inn Middletown, New York, from 2005-2008.

Before joining the hospitality industry, Wojcik worked in customer service for LOT Polish Airlines from 1999-2005.

Wojcik earned bachelor's degrees in business management and hospitality and tourism, respectively, at the Economic Academy and Physical Education Academy both in Krakow, Poland. She is fluent in English and Polish.

02-13-2017 General Manager Named for New York’s New Hilton Garden Inn

GREAT NECK, N.Y. (Feb. 13, 2017) – M&R Hotel Management today announced the appointment of Felix Maldonado as the general manager of the 250-room Hilton Garden Inn New York Times Square South, now under construction at 326 West 37th St. and scheduled to open in June.

The hotel will be the first Hilton brand in M&R’s 17-property managed portfolio.

Maldonado, a 35-year hospitality industry veteran who has managed a variety of hotels in the greater New York market, will oversee the Hilton Garden Inn’s operations, sales, marketing, security, maintenance, housekeeping and accounting.

Maldonado joins M&R from Highgate Hotels, which he served from 2012 to 2015, first as general manager of the Hampton Inn Manhattan − Times Square North, then general manager of the Hilton Garden Inn New York/Times Square Central and finally general manager of the Renaissance New York Hotel 57.

From 2003 to 2012, Maldonado was director of rooms and then director of front desk operations at the Loews Regency New York Hotel. He served Interstate Hotels & Resorts from 2002 to 2003, first as front office manager and then communications director at the Park Central Hotel New York.

Earlier in his career, Maldonado served Manhattan East Suite Hotels (now Affinia Hospitality) from 1999 to 2001, serving as assistant front office manager at The Benjamin and then front office manager at the Beekman Tower Hotel, both in New York. During this period, he also worked weekends at The Garden City Hotel, New York, as a guest services manager.

He began his hospitality career while still in college in 1982, working as a front desk agent at the Hotel Tudor, the Park Central (then part of Omni Hotels & Resorts) and the Omni Berkshire Place, all in New York. In 1988, he joined Le Parker Meridien in Manhattan full-time as assistant manager, leaving in 1990 to work in the garment, retail and commercial industries before returning to hospitality.

Maldonado earned a bachelor’s degree in physics at New York University. He is a certified fire safety director and member of the Hotel Association of New York City Inc. and its Sustainability committee. Fluent in English and Spanish, he has a working knowledge of French, Italian, Portuguese and German.

“Felix’s specific experience with the Hilton Garden Inn brand and his in-depth knowledge of the Manhattan market, including the Times Square and Times Square South markets, makes him truly qualified to take the helm of this new hotel,” said Brian McSherry, M&R Hotel Management chief operating officer.

02-6-2017 M&R Appoints Area General Manager for Two JFK-Area Hotels

GREAT NECK, N.Y. ( Feb. 6, 2017) ─ M&R Hotel Management today announced the appointment of Z.B. Moham, a 25-year lodging veteran, as area general manager to oversee two of its four hotels near John F. Kennedy International Airport: the 73-room Days Inn Jamaica – JFK Airport and the 87-room Best Western JFK Airport Hotel.

In this role, Moham oversees operations, sales, marketing, security, maintenance, housekeeping and accounting for the two hotels.

Prior to joining M&R, Moham was area general manager for the Best Western Plus Seaport Inn Downtown and The Gem Hotel SoHo, both in Lower Manhattan. From 2005 to 2006, he was general manager of the Best Western Plus Seaport Inn. He was assistant general manager of the former DoubleTree by Hilton JFK from 2002-2004 before being promoted to general manager in 2004.

Earlier in his career, Moham served in increasingly responsible front desk positions at the Ramada Plaza Hotel LaGuardia Airport in Queens and, starting in 1992, the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel New York City − Times Square and The Kimberly, A Boutique Suite Hotel, both in Manhattan.

“Z.B.’s broad experience as a general manager, including at a number of airport hotels, makes him well-qualified to assume his new role at two of our properties at JFK,” said Brian M. McSherry M&R Hotel Management chief operating officer.

Moham studied at Hunter College and Vaughn College, both in New York. He is certified in food safety protection, boiler operations and fire safety.

09-26-2016 - M&R Hotel Management Names Manager of LaGuardia Airport Hotel

GREAT NECK, N.Y. (Sept. 26, 2016) ─ M&R Hotel Management today announced the appointment of Eldin Elezovic as general manager of the Holiday Inn Express LaGuardia Airport hotel, located on Horace Harding Expressway in Flushing, New York.

Elezovic, a 16-year hospitality industry veteran who has served in hotel management roles in Manhattan as well as Queens, will oversee all aspects of the 84-room hotel’s operations, including sales, marketing, security, maintenance, housekeeping and accounting. An expansion project, currently underway for completion this year, will bring the guest room total to 119.

Elezovic most recently was director of operations at the Flatiron Hotel in Manhattan’s Flatiron district. From 2008 to 2015, he was in charge of a limited-service hotel portfolio at LaGuardia, and served the Crowne Plaza at John F. Kennedy International Airport from 2007 to 2008, first as director of operations and subsequently as assistant general manager. 

From 2005 to 2007 he worked at the Radisson Hotel Martinique near Manhattan’s Herald Square, first as director of guest services and then as director of operations. From 2000 to 2005, he was front office manager at the Holiday Inn New York City-Midtown-57th St. hotel, also in Manhattan.

“Eldin’s depth of experience in the New York hotel market, including at hotels at both LaGuardia and Kennedy airports, makes him well qualified to lead the team as general manager at our LaGuardia property,” said Brian M. McSherry, M&R Hotel Management chief operating officer.

M&R Hotel Management, operator of 16 hotels including 13 in New York, today announced the appointment of Danny Sanchez-Toro as general manager of the 129-room Holiday Inn Express New York JFK Airport Area near John F. Kennedy International Airport in Jamaica, New York.

Sanchez-Toro, a 17-year hospitality industry veteran who has managed hotels in New York, Connecticut, Florida and Wisconsin, oversees all aspects of the hotel’s operations including sales, marketing, security, maintenance, housekeeping and accounting.

He most recently served M&R Hotel Management as assistant general manager of the Holiday Inn L.I. City – Manhattan View in Long Island City, New York. Lugaro, a 10-year hospitality industry veteran who has worked in hotels in New York and Georgia, oversees all aspects of the hotel’s management, including operations, sales, marketing, security, maintenance, housekeeping and accounting.

Chang, a 24-year hospitality industry veteran, joined M&R as general manager of the 128-room Holiday Inn Express New York JFK Airport Area in October 2014. M&R Hotel Management today announced the appointment of Glenda Gomez as general manager of the 177-room Holiday Inn Express Manhattan Midtown West at 538 West 48th St.

Gomez, an 11-year hospitality industry veteran who has managed branded as well as independent hotels in New York, will oversee the hotel’s operations, sales, marketing, security, maintenance, housekeeping and accounting.

Gomez previously served M&R Hotel Management for two and one half years as general manager of the Holiday Inn Express LaGuardia Airport in Queens. Prior to joining M&R, she was director of front office operations for The Alex Hotel in New York City. From 2007 to 2011, she was overnight audit manager and front office manager at the Gardens NYC, an Affinia Hotel.

Earlier in her career, Gomez held similar positions at The Mark Hotel from 2006 to 2007 and the Best Western Convention Center Hotel, both in New York, from 2004 to 2006.

Gomez earned a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant management at the New York Institute of Technology and is fluent in English and Spanish.

GREAT NECK, N.Y. (Feb. 26, 2015) ─ M&R Hotel Management today announced that its 13 hotels in the United States will participate in Clean the World’s recycling program, which recycles soap and bottled shampoo left behind by guests for distribution to people in need around the world.

Clean the World’s mission is to save lives by distributing hygiene products. The organization notes that 2 million children under the age of five die every year due to hygiene-related illnesses. Hand washing with soap is a low-cost intervention that can reduce those deaths by almost 50 percent.

“By partnering with Clean the World, we are reducing soap and shampoo waste while doing our part to help the disadvantaged and save lives,” said Amit Gandhi, M&R Hotel Management president and chief executive officer. “Our hotel team members support this effort and are happy to take the extra steps needed for this program to succeed.”

Since 2009, Clean the World has distributed more than 22 million bars of soap in 96 countries, according to Shawn Seipler, Clean the World co-founder and chief executive officer. The organization has partnered with more than 2,200 hotels and resorts to supply hygiene products to people who do not have ready access to them.

"We estimate the North American lodging industry throws away more than a million bars of soap each day,” Seipler said. “By recycling soap and bottled amenities, M&R Hotel Management will make a positive impact from both an environmental and humanitarian perspective." The recycling process sanitizes the hygiene products prior to distribution.

01-12-2015 M&R Hotel Management Adds Long Island City Holiday Inn to Portfolio
GREAT NECK, New York (Jan. 12, 2015) – M&R Hotel Management today announced that it has been awarded a contract to manage the 136-room Holiday Inn L.I. City – Manhattan View hotel in Long Island City, Queens, which becomes the 14th hotel in the company’s portfolio.
 
The full-service hotel at 39-05 29th St., owned by Queens Plaza North LLC, features king and queen rooms and suites, each equipped with a Keurig coffee maker, refrigerator, premium cable TV channels, audio connection for iPhones and MP3 players, desk, speakerphone, voice mail, iron and ironing board. Top-floor suites and many other guest rooms feature views of the East River and Manhattan skyline.
 
Complimentary amenities include wired and wireless high-speed Internet service, local calls, daily newspaper, bottled water, 24-hour fitness and business centers and on-site parking. The hotel also offers valet laundry service, an ATM and two function rooms that each can accommodate up to 60 people, theater-style.
